Acorn Amps Solid State
I've been getting to know Tyler from Acorn Amps - and he looped me into a crazy project he's been working on. What if you had a guitar pedal that can drive a speaker cabinet? I'm very honored today to help announce this amazing device from Acorn Amps, The Solid State. First off, it has two outputs so you can either 1) use guitar cable to run it into the front of other pedals or your guitar amp combo/head as a preamp/overdrive pedal - but the crazy thing is that you can also... 2) ...use the other output with a speaker cable to connect direct to a speaker cabinet - no amp head needed! The Solid State is actually a 10w speaker head that can connect to any impedance speaker cab (a 4 ohm cab will allow the full 10w output, at 8 ohms the wattage is 7.5w, and finally at 16 ohms, the wattage is 6 watts - that last setting is how I ran it today into my Benson Vincent 2x12" cabinet with Celestion G12H speakers). Chapters: 00:00 Intro and Background 02:38 Quick Comparison of Running into Amp vs. Direct to Cab in Normal Mode 05:02 Quick Comparison of Running into Amp vs. Direct to 2x12" Cab in Saturation Mode 07:32 Extended Jam 1, Running into Amp Head and Cab - Normal Mode 13:37 Extended Jam 1, Running into Amp Head and Cab - Saturation Mode 21:52 Extended Jam 2, Running Direct to 2x12" Guitar Cabinet - Normal Mode 29:04 Extended Jam 2, Running Direct to 2x12" Guitar Cabinet - Saturation Mode 33:39 Outro I'm using my Nash S63 with @EmersonCustomUSA wiring kit, treble bleed, and the @jessetwohands Kingtone Switch in the secondary tone pot. To power the pedal, I am using the @strymon Ojai r30 with one of the power ports set to 18v. That's it! No wall plug needed! I am also running the Solid State into the amp head input of the @BOSSinfoglobal Waza Tube Amp Expander solely to add some reverb between the Preamp/Post and the Speaker Cab. Works awesomely! Speaker and instrument cables are made by Caulfield Cables. Check them out with a 20% discount by using code "EOB"! This is so rad, Tyler and co!! Some of my favorite clean and gain tones I've ever heard! Thank you for sending this out for me to make some content with. 🙌 Correction: In the video I refer to Acorn Amps as operating out of Austin, Texas - there was a misunderstanding during video production that led to this error - they co-operate out of both Austin and Atlanta, Georgia at the moment. #edgeofbreakup #geardemos #acornamps #ampinabox #guitarpedals #guitarpedal #directtocabinet #knowyourtone #guitartone #guitarist #guitar #guitarplayer #guitaramppedal #guitaramp
Walrus Audio Slotva
I have to say, the Walrus Audio Slotva may be the only ambient reverb you need... I paired it up with my Nash S63 Strat with Lollar Pickups and Emerson Wiring Kit for maximum sparkle and clarity, into my Benson Vincent. NEW RELATED VIDEO: want to hear the @walrusaudioeffects Slotva in a band mix? Check it out: https://youtu.be/vpUm0xyZslE Immediately my playing was awash in ambient reverb. Low octave doubling, reverb swelling that arise from below, dizzying modulation. And you can dial in/tame all these amazing sounds using not only a mix knob, but also a filter and depth knob. When the modulation gets queasy, a little filter and mix adjustment creates an awesome and really interested almost chorused reverb bed to play over. And Dream mode allows you to latch and sample and hold a sound so you can play over that cloud of tone indefinitely with no fear of it decaying out. This is definitely the coolest ambient reverb pedal I have ever played - and I loved playing with full wet with no dry signal too! 00:00 Intro 02:35 Dark Mode 07:09 Rise Mode 13:23 Dream Mode 15:03 Full Wet on the Mix Knob, Dream Mode 16:58 Latching in Dream Mode = Infinitely Sustain a Sound 18:15 Deactivate Latching Infinite Sustain / Outro #walrusaudio #ambientguitar #edgeofbreakup #guitarpedals #guitardemo #geardemo #guitarpedal #bensonamps #stratocaster #lollarpickups #pedalboard #reverbpedal #ambientreverb
Universal Audio Starlight
Today we are diving into the world of emulation for vintage studio delay effects, with the @universal audio Starlight Echo Station! So blown away by this pedal... I think it's my new go-to delay! Grabbed my Prisma Sunset with Lollar Gold Foils, plugged into my Benson Vincent, and threw the Starlight in the Effects Loop and off we go! Cannot believe how great of a combination this was. 🔥 This is the third demo I've done for @Universal Audio , don't miss my demos on the Astra Modulation Machine and the Golden Reverberator! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6rPncQ6rww https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiu8evGd-zc Don't forget to subscribe to the channel, and follow on Instagram and Twitter for even more Edge of Breakup content! instagram.com/edgeofbreakup twitter.com/edgeofbreakup_ Table of Contents: 00:00 Intro and Background 01:20 Clean Tones into 70's Tape Delay (Echoplex) 03:11 Brighter Tape Delay, Less Wear 03:56 Increasing Tape Delay Modulation 04:22 Used and Warm Tape Delay 05:35 Analog DMM mode (Deluxe Memory Man emulation) 08:44 Cranking DMM Feedback 09:59 Precision Delay Mode (80s digital delay rack unit emulation) 11:38 Pushing Repeats to very high in precision mode - will not self oscillate 12:11 Cooper Time Cube Mode - Extra Mode Activated When User Registers at uaudio.com 15:00 Revisit Echoplex 70s Tape Delay Mode 15:18 Tape Delay Self-Oscillation #uaudio #universalaudio #edgeofbreakup #delaypedal #guitarpedals #guitardemo #pedaldemo #producer #studiogear #producerlife #lollarpickups #tonefordays #gearybusey #guitarist #guitarplayer
Thorpy FX The Dane
There is nothing I like more than using overdrive and boost together! Do you need a dual overdrive? Well, my question is, why wouldn't you. While dual pedals have two drives, to be more specific, Thorpy FX's The Dane is a Boost / Overdrive combo, but the boost side is no ordinary boost. Yes it has a ton of level on tap, but whoooa mama the addition of a Lows control to boost the bass is just what you need to push your amp harder than you can imagine. All you need to do is make sure that you can play loud enough that your amp is on the edge of breakup, or have an attenuation strategy like the Universal Audio Ox or Boss Waza Rube Amp Expander to soak up some of that extra level your neighbors love so much. If you can park your amp there and then hit it with The Dane Boost... wow. To be honest, also great for thickening up your guitar tones into a clean high headroom amp as well, and adding beef to single coils. But fret not, if you can't play loud and you don't have an Ox or Waza TAE - this is where having a drive in the same pedal right after the boost is huge! Simply set The Dane's left side Drive how you like your core rhythm tone, dial in the gain and top end, and then you can treat the pedal's boost like an ignition switch to the level gear, almost like a second amp channel! It's spectacular. I'm featuring it here with my Nash Tele T63, with Lollar Pickups vintage neck and special bridge, and an Emerson 4 Way Tele Wiring Kit with a Treble Bleed Mod on the volume. I will be honest, this is the the best tone I've gotten in 2022 so far! #edgeofbreakup #overdrivepedal #guitarpedal #andertonstv #guitartone #guitardemo #bensonamps #tonefordays #telecaster #telecasterfender #fendertelecaster #fendertele #lollarpickups #guitar #guitarist
Lollar Pickups El Rayo Humbuckers
Hunt for the Perfect Humbucker for Gibson SG - this time around, I am featuring the Lollar Pickups El Rayo Humbuckers Thanks a ton for checking the channel out, don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and leave a comment if you dig the content! Also, follow on Instagram and say what's up in the DMs! www.instagram.com/edgeofbreakup -------- I'm on a tone hunt for the best Humbuckers to swap into this Gibson SG Standard '61 Reissue. Follow along with me as I talk about the mods I have done so far to the guitar, and see if you dig the @Lollar Pickups El Rayos more than the Fralin Pure PAF Humbuckers (https://youtu.be/lPHmESPyyxs), or more than the Seymour Duncan Antiquities (https://youtu.be/ntlHT09FXxA), or even the stock Gibson Burstbuckers that I showcased in the original video, which you can find here: https://youtu.be/xcC6wLci1DY ----------- I picked up this Gibson SG Standard '61 Reissue a few months back and I've been getting to know it, and adjusting it for the feel I want. I have set it up both both slide and standard tuning / action, and I have found that the Gibson Burstbuckers weren't quite was I was looking for. I think the search may be over with these extremely expressive, open, low output El Rayo Humbucker from @Lollar Pickups! Probably my favorite Humbucker I've ever played. They say they are the perfect humbuckers for single coil players, and I've def found that to be true! Background: Unfortunately, originally I did find that the guitar's tuning stability was quite lacking, so I replaced the tuners with @StewMac Locking Kluson Tuners which helped but didn't get me all the way there, so I replaced the nut with a Stew Mac Bone nut, and applied some nut sauce and the guitar is very stable now! I also replaced all the wiring with an Emerson Custom SG Wiring Kit, and added an Emerson Custom Treble Bleed to both volume knobs to preserve my top end when turning volume down. Finally, I replaced the stock stop tail/saddle/bridge with a Callaham stainless steel kit. Jam Pedals Rattler & Wahcko
Let's learn how to get '90s guitar tones! Well if you were like me in high school, you're gonna need distortion and wah! In the mid-90s, I rocked a ProCo Rat and a Crybaby Wah! So classic - but the game has significantly upped since then. I received a beautiful package from Greece the other day, with some killer standard and custom shop gear from Jam Pedals - and I realized that OH MY GOD, I can revisit my high school pedalboard and see where it takes me - WITH MUCH, MUCH BETTER GEAR! 🤣 @JAM pedals have outdone themselves with the Wahcko, and to pile even more amazing-ness on top, this is their custom shop variant which comes in an ever-changing array of finishes. I got tropical fish capacitors and the hand-wired option. We are running that first, and riding those killer wah frequencies into the Jam Rattler, which features the hallowed LM308N chip. This takes me back but it is NOT the Rat I had in high school, first off it sounds AMAZING at any level of gain or brightness dialed in, it has way more volume on tap... and it looks like a piece of modern art. Jam Pedals... thank you for being you. What a wonderful time I had making this and it really took me back to the '90s. Jam Pedals Ripply Fall
Chorus and Phaser Together? The Jam Pedals Ripply Fall has been on my list for a long time, so happy to finally witness its amazing Chorus / Vibrato + Phaser tones - it's actually a dual pedal with one side featuring Jam's Waterfall Vibrato/Chorus and the other featuring the Ripple 2 Stage Phaser - both are based on BBD chips for all that analog vintage mojo you crave. Here I am featuring it with my @Benson Amps Vincent on both the clean channel and the dirt channel, as well as my Frank Brothers Arcade with Lollar Pickups P90s. The grill is mic'd with a Shure SM57 and Royer R121, and the room is mic'd with a Royer R10. All of that is going into the @Universal Audio Apollo x4 and @Ableton Live 11. Unfortunately, I did find that the guitar's tuning stability was quite lacking, so I replaced the tuners with @StewMac Locking Kluson Tuners which helped but didn't get me all the way there, so I am going to get the nut replaced with a Stew Mac Bone nut, looking to learn to do that on the job! Universal Audio Astra
It's so amazing to have all the classic studio effects in one pedal - today, so stoked to be showcasing the Universal Audio Astra Modulation Machine! @Universal Audio has created the most amazing multi-modulation pedal that I've even played - the Astra! It features faithful and lush recreations of classic bucket brigade chorus pedals, flanger/doubletracker, classic American amplifier Tremolo, vintage Phaser, and a Dharma Trem which gives you uni-vibe style sounds. This pedal is astounding. All the audio is from the @Universal Audio Apollo x4, using a Royer r121 / SM57 on the cab grill, and a Royer R10 on the back of the amp for a roomier sound. The guitar is the amazing Prisma Sunset with @Lollar Pickups Novel Foils in the Bridge and Neck. #edgeofbreakup #universalaudio #uaudio #modulation #flanger #univibe #uafx #choruspedal #lollarpickups #bensonamps #thatpedalshow #guitarpedal #guitarpedals #pedaldemo #jazzmaster
