The humbucker hunt continues. Episode 2 of the search for the best pickup for a Gibson SG Standard '61 Reissue — this time with the Seymour Duncan Antiquity Humbuckers. Welcome back to Edge of Breakup.

The Seymour Duncan Antiquity is one of the most historically committed PAF replicas on the market. Built in Seymour Duncan's Custom Shop "Antiquity room," each set is wound on Seymour's original Leesona 102 winding machine — purchased directly from the Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where Seth Lover wound the original Patent Applied For humbuckers in the mid-1950s. The butyrate bobbins are cast from the same factory mold used for the original Gibson PAF. 42AWG plain enamel mag-wire, 2.5-inch Alnico 2 bar magnet, nickel silver cover, maple spacer, and long-legged nickel silver bottom plate complete the build. DC resistance runs approximately 7.7K at the neck and 8.6K at the bridge. Not wax potted — by design — which preserves the edge-of-feedback harmonic character that made the originals so coveted. Every set is aged cosmetically and magnetically, then signed by Seymour on the magnet and bottom plate.
The result is warm, smooth, and harmonically rich — Alnico 2 producing that singing, slightly compressed character that cleans up beautifully from the guitar's volume knob and rewards pick dynamics with nuance rather than flatness.
The guitar is the Gibson SG Standard '61 Reissue, already modded with an Emerson Custom SG Wiring Kit, Emerson Custom Treble Bleeds on both volume knobs, StewMac Locking Kluson Tuners, and a Callaham stainless steel stop tail, saddle, and bridge kit.
