The Lindy Fralin Pure PAF is Lindy's personal favorite humbucker and his best-selling design — built in Richmond, Virginia to original 1950s Gibson PAF specifications with modern quality control and a 10-year warranty. USA-made Alnico 2 bar magnets, 42-gauge plain enamel wire, USA-made butyrate bobbins, and a compensated overwound bridge for even output across both positions. DC resistance runs 7.5K at neck and 8K at bridge. Every set is hand-wound using Fralin's proprietary "Sectioning" technique — a throwback to how the original Gibson workers wound their coils — giving each pickup a sweet, clear, layered tone that a machine-wound pickup simply cannot replicate.
The magnets are hand-weakened after winding to soften the treble and smooth the grind. The result is what Fralin describes as clean, articulate, and warm — pronounced pick attack, pure-sounding plain strings, and bright wound strings. These won't break up as early as a hot modern humbucker, which on a Gibson SG pushing a Benson Amps Vincent is exactly what you want: dynamics that respond to your hands rather than compressing before you get there.
The guitar is the Gibson SG Standard '61 Reissue, modded with an Emerson Custom SG Wiring Kit, Emerson Custom Treble Bleeds on both volume knobs, StewMac Locking Kluson Tuners, and a Callaham stainless steel stop tail, saddle, and bridge kit.
