The Redland 35 is Benson's new take on the extended American clean palette — inspired by sounds as varied as Dumble and Peavey rather than the West Coast voicing Benson is best known for. 12AX7 preamp, 6L6 power section, variable output from 1 to 35 watts via power scaling. What makes the Redland genuinely different is the completely reimagined tone stack. Bass moves a sizable scoop up and down the frequency spectrum, starting at 100Hz and ending around 1kHz — cutting bass at the lowest point and edging into the treble at the highest. Treble is a rolloff, but at a much steeper 12dB/octave slope rather than the typical 6dB/octave found in most guitar amps, with EQ points selected specifically for guitar. A small amount of global negative feedback slows the response envelope for extra fatness in feel and response. Ron Ellis' '50s LRP Humbuckers — a replica of the exact PAFs found in Duane Allman's 1957 Goldtop — give the Redland's clean-forward voicing a genuinely vintage-correct foundation, with the Emerson Custom Premier Pro pots and Treble Bleeds keeping full clarity through the volume knob sweep, explored from 06:59.
The Benson Tall Bird+ contributes both Optical Harmonic Tremolo (explored from 09:30 and again at 49:25) and Optical Amplitude Tremolo (explored from 27:33) — giving the Redland's clean American voicing a distinctly different modulation character depending on mode.
The R2R Electric Preamp Super Deluxe — Chris Vincent's Höfner-inspired NOS AC107 germanium preamp — enters repeatedly throughout the demo across multiple gain settings, from 19:29 through 53:51, showing how it interacts with the Redland's gain range from low (31:42) through medium (24:17) and fully cranked. The power scaling drops all the way to 1 watt from 42:45 for huge power amp distortion at bedroom volume.
