Expresso FX returns to the channel with the Mojo Edition Fuzz Bender MKII & MKI.V — two historic fuzz classics in one pedal, all loaded with NOS CV7005 germanium transistors. Welcome back to Edge of Breakup.
The Expresso FX Mojo Edition Fuzz Bender MKII & MKI.V pairs with the Gibson Custom Murphy Lab SG — Righteous Sound RAF A4/A2 Humbuckers, Emerson Custom Prewired Kit and Treble Bleeds — into the Benson Amps Vincent 2x12" with Scumback H75-PVC speakers via the Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander. The Effectrode Tube Vibe and Benson Tall Bird+ Harmonic Tremolo also feature.
Sof at Expresso FX combines two distinct three-transistor and two-transistor Tone Bender-family circuits into one enclosure, both running NOS CV7005 germanium transistors — three transistors total across the combined circuit for the MKII, with the MKI.V offering its own dual-transistor character as a switchable mode.
MKII Mode (explored from 01:50) is the fuller, thicker Sola Sound Tone Bender MKII voicing — richer low end and more sustain than the earlier MKI, the sound that defined the sludgier end of British psychedelic and early hard rock guitar. Fuzz Level and Attack are explored across their full range from 02:57 through 05:23, with the volume knob cleanup on both neck and bridge humbuckers explored from 06:14.
MKI.V Mode (explored from 09:43) sits between a Fuzz Face and a full Tone Bender MKI — thicker and wilder than a straightforward Fuzz Face, but less aggressive than the three-transistor MKI. The Attack knob and reduced Output are the primary creative tools here, with an extensive volume knob cleanup exploration from 10:09 and again at 13:46, this time with the Benson Tall Bird+ Harmonic Tremolo engaged from 14:05.
The Gibson Custom Murphy Lab SG's Righteous Sound RAF A4 neck (~6.9K) and A2 bridge (~7.5K) humbuckers give both fuzz modes plenty of vintage PAF character to work with — open and airy in the neck, warm and vintage-voiced in the bridge.
